What did I want to learn?
Before I started the course, there were a few things I had no idea about within the influencer world.
1. Building a Media Kit
This was important to me to learn how much to charge brands in the future. My followers on Instagram seem to be growing quite quickly at the moment and this was something I really wanted to find out about but it was really hard to find any clear information on the internet.
2. Pitching to Brands
I’m quite scared of having to do this but I know I will have to if I want to work with my dream brands one day.
What I Found Useful From LadyBossBlogger Course
The course has a lot of information within it which was really helpful for me. The first section of the course is the introduction which, itself included helpful information.
The introduction includes:
How to stand out as an influencer
Beginner mistakes that you won’t make after the course
Instagram engagement hacks
Information about the brand’s Elaine (the founder of LadyBossBlogger) has worked with. I really like the fact I could see which brands Elaine has worked with as it showed me that she knows what she is talking about and reassured me that the course will be really helpful.
Pitching:
Within this section, I learnt how to create a media kit. This is something I’d heard of a few times and was something I wanted to learn before I started the course. It seems like a really useful tool to create when pitching to brands, as it's a bit like a CV.
This section also showed how to create the perfect email to send to brands and included examples of emails Elaine has sent and the responses she got. This helped me become more confident in pitching, and I now know what to write and what to do as I had absolutely no idea before.
Branding:
Specifically, I liked ‘10 main reasons brands hire influencers’. It was really interesting to see what brands look for. I wrote about influencer marketing and why it works, as well as what brands look for within my dissertation, so this expanded on what I’d already learnt and really helped further my knowledge of the influencer industry.
Affiliate Marketing:
I already do a little bit of affiliate marketing, but I don’t have a lot of knowledge on it.
I just use a website that has a lot of brands and helps to create affiliate links. This section of the course taught me about being an affiliate for specific brands and gave a list of other websites that had a lot of brands use to help you create affiliate links. I think this section would be really useful to bloggers and Instagrammers who are just starting out and have no idea about affiliate links.
Email Marketing:
This is something I've never even thought about before! It seems like a brilliant way to engage with your followers as they can subscribe to a mail list, where you send them emails with information on. I’m currently thinking about whether I could do this and send people blog posts in the form of emails. There was a lot about this throughout the course and how important it is. There was even a bonus section at the back called ‘Email Marketing 101’.
Other Course Insights:
Recommended websites that will help further your blogging career, for example, there is a link to a website that helps you work out how much to charge based on your engagement rate, followers, and other factors. This helped as that was something I wanted to learn before I started the course.
Downloadable files eg. ‘blog income taxes spreadsheet’. The only thing about this is that this would be slightly different in the UK. I don’t know a lot about taxes but I know it differs from the UK and the USA.
Legal information - Again, this is amazing if you live in the US but as I’m from England, it didn’t really help me that much. It did give information about the FTC which is the American company who regulate ads etc. on social media. The information is still relevant to the UK but we have the company 'ASA' instead in the UK, which sets slightly different regulations.
What extra information was included?
At the end of the course, there is so much extra information. Some of which wouldn’t be useful to me eg. ‘how to create a profitable course’. This is probably brilliant for some people who want to create their own course but this isn't something that I want to do.
On the other hand, there was ‘how to start a podcast’ and ‘best youtube channel practises’. Both of these would be helpful to me. I already have a youtube channel and I will definitely be putting these tips into practise!
The podcast one might be useful for me in the future as podcasts are really popular at the moment and seem to be the next step a lot of influencers are taking.
There is also a list of brands which are looking for ambassadors at the moment. This would be really helpful if you lived in America as a lot of them are American brands and I'm not quite sure how it would work if you can't get the brand in the UK, and whether or not they ship worldwide etc.
